Pesticide Use in Schools
The Ohio Revised Code (ORC 901:5-11-15) currently establishes requirements for pesticide used in classroom buildings of schools. Bowling Green School District has Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs in place. IPM utilizes various means of control elimination of pests which include but not limited to sanitation, closure of entry points, elimination of potential harborage sites and other non chemical or chemical means of eradication. Use of chemicals to control pests is closely monitored and applied only as a means of last resort. When chemicals are required, advance notice will be posted at the building location. In certain emergencies, pesticide chemicals may be applied without prior notice.
The Buildings and Grounds Staff are annually recertified under the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Safety training Guide for Trained Servicemen program. Mr. Toby Snow, Director of Buildings and Grounds, is the ODA commercial applicator license holder for the district. Additional information on Pesticide Use in Schools can be obtained at http://www.agri.ohio.gov.
