Welcome to Bowling Green Middle School

2017-2018 Middle School Orientation

When is orientation for the 2017-2018 school year? 6th grade orientation will take place on Thursday August 10. The orientation will be from 8-10am or from 10am-noon, depending on the team placement of your child. 7th and 8th grade orientation will take place on Friday August 11. 7th grade orientation will be from 8-9am or 9-10am, and 8th grade orientation will be from 10-11am or 11-noon, depending on the team placement for your child.

What happens at orientation? At the orientation, students will have a chance to pick up their class schedule, take their picture for the yearbook, put money on their lunch account, pay school fees, purchase a yearbook, purchase sports passes, practice opening lockers and tour the building. Students will also have the opportunity to purchase books at the Book Fair in the library. Money raised through the Book Fair will be used to purchase additional books for the middle school library.

When will I receive my Team Packet? In the office, we have been diligently working to hand schedule roughly 750 students for the 2017-2018 school year. With that said, we are making great progress and will mail team letters towards the end of July. In the team letters, you will receive your child’s team placement, school supply lists, along with other pertinent information regarding the upcoming school year.

What if I don’t receive my Team Packet in the mail? If you don’t receive a team packet in the mail, one of the following applies: you owe a school fee, failed to return all textbooks and library books at the end of last year, didn’t properly complete school registration information from the spring, or we have not receive updated vaccination information (incoming 7th graders only) for the 2017-2018 school year.

What if I can’t attend orientation? Students may attend the orientation with a friend, grandparent, babysitter, guardian, etc. If you are out of town, students may pick up their schedule in the main office during the week of August 14 or on the first day of school. Picture retakes will be offered in the fall – additional information will be sent home with students.

I want to remind you that the 2017-2018 district school calendar is available on our website: http://www.bgcs.k12.oh.us/calendars/. Also, keep in mind the Ohio Tax Free school shopping weekend runs from August 4-6. More information can be found on the following website: http://www.tax.ohio.gov/sales_and_use/salestaxholiday/holidayfaq.aspx

Thanks,

Eric Radabaugh, Principal

Students are put into teams which creates smaller learning communities for students. Teachers meet daily to discuss instructional plans for students in their team. Teams communicate with students using Edmodo, Google Apps, and a Team Google Doc containing announcements, teacher contact info and homework information for students and parents.
