Technology Services Minimize

Bowling Green Area Schools provides technology tools and network services to staff and students to strengthen learning and instruction and to fulfill administrative functions. The district believes that technology is most effective when integrated into inquiry based activities in which students are gatherers of information, problem solvers, and communicators of knowledge. Students use information and network resources, production software, and hardware to fulfill this vision.

Network Services Minimize

Internet Access: The district offers high speed (20MB) Internet access through NOACSC for staff and student research. Service is filtered in compliance with CIPA limiting access to inappropriate material.

File Services: The district supplies staff and students individual accounts on their respective building file server, providing secure storage, easy access to files, collaboration and file sharing.

Email: The district provides Email accounts for staff to communicate with colleagues and community. Teachers may also request, with parent permission, accounts for student for special projects.

Library Catalog: Students and staff can search for and reserve district books with the online Library Catalog. Students are also encouraged to explore and share resources from Wood County Public Library and Bowling Green State University's Jerome Library.

Information Resources: The district and Ohio's INFOhio services offer a number of quality information services. Appropriate resources are provided for elementary, middle school, and high school students and staff.

Web Page: NOACSC hosts the content management system that runs the BG Website. Interested teachers and organizations may request space which takes advantage of Web 2.0 fuinctionality, including web-based editing and interactive features. Users are expected to adhere to the District Web Guidelines for safety purposes.

iCal: The district offers online calendars to Bowling Green staff who would like to share schedules with staff, students, and community. Examples are listed on the Calendars page.

Gradebook: K-12 teachers use an electronic grade book program to take attendance, track progress, and generate Interim Reports and Grade Cards.

Parent Internet Viewer: Parents and students in grades 4-12 can check their grades and attendance online. Because PIV interacts with the Gradebook program, parents and students will see updated grades as teachers enter assignments, test, and project scores into the system.

SchoolConnects: A parent notification system which can call and/or email parents with emergency information and general annoucements within minutes.

HelpDesk: Staff use the BG HelpDesk to report technical issues and to make requests. Users will eventually be able to search for tutorials on the Helpdesk as well. This tool also provides network inventory and software deployment features that should increase cost efficiency.
