Career Explorations Minimize

8th Grade

Career research is done in classroom sessions with Mrs. Leslie.  Students also use the OCIS website, and participate in a "Reality Check" activity, making a budget to fit their desired lifestyle.  They then investigate a career of their choosing to see if it is compatable with the lifestyle they have chosen in the "Reality Check" activity.

Academics Minimize

Students receive help in organizing, prioritizing, and managing course work.  Students will also be able to monitor missing assignments and daily homework.

Agendas

Agendas play a vital role in middle school success.  Each day students fill out their agendas by writing in  assignments from each class.  During academic assist (AA), they check their agendas for those assignments and begin working on them.

Homework Hotline

Assignments can also be checked via the homework hotline, a telephone message system, by both parents and students.  Each academic team has its own extension number (see below) which will have a recording of daily assignments. Call 419-354-0200 and enter your team's extension:

Team Independence: ext 2840
Team Victory: ext 2850
Team Liberty: ext 2860

Study Sessions

Teams also offer study sessions four days a week, Monday- Thursday. Study sessions allow students structured time to do homework, study for tests and quizzes, and ask for help from their team teachers.  This time also models appropriate study skills and environment.  Study sessions typically run from 2:35-3:05 p.m.; teachers rotate supervision duties on each team.  Contact your child's team for exact time and location of study sessions.
