ENGLISH NOTEBOOK:
You are responsible for keeping your notebook organized throughout the school year by filing all assignments and notes in the appropriate sections of the notebook. Notebooks will be checked periodically throughout the year and once at the end of each grading period.
JOURNAL:
You are also responsible for purchasing a one-subject spiral notebook that will serve as your journal for this class. Journal assignments will be explained in more detail later.
VOCABULARY:
You will each have your own vocabulary workbook from which you will complete weekly assignments. On Fridays we will begin each assignment as a class. You will then have the rest of the period to complete the assignment. Once you are finished with the assignment you will be required to sustain silent read (SSR) for the remainder of the period. SSR will be part of your grade in English 9. In addition to the weekly vocabulary assignments, you will have vocabulary tests approximately every five weeks.
ABSENCES / MAKE UP WORK:
It is very important that you make up any assignments that you miss if you are absent. In the event that you are absent, I will put together the work that you missed and when you return, you will pick it up in the “Welcome Back” tray. It is your responsibility to make up the work that you miss when you are absent. Any work that is not made up will be considered late and worth half-credit. If you have any questions about missed work, please be sure to ask.
LATE WORK:
It is very important that you COMPLETE ALL ASSIGNMENTS AND TURN THEM IN ON TIME. Your grade will be adversely affected by late or missing work. Late assignments will be worth half-credit, meaning the grade that you earn on the assignment will be divided in half. In addition, late work from the first half of a quarter will not be taken after the midterm of that quarter. It is your responsibility to stay organized and keep track of assignments. Please remember that the grades you earn in high school will have an effect on your life after high school.
